Rules Junkie: How Do You Get A 4-Stroke Penalty?

2016-03-07T08:53:08-08:00

Brendon de Jonge’s day at the Northern Trust Open got off to a solid start with a two-putt birdie at the first hole. Things quickly became more complicated, however, when he missed the green at No. 2 and reached for his 60-degree lob wedge. That’s when he noticed the shaft near the butt of the grip had been dented. The damage occurred a day earlier when de Jonge had to play a chip shot on his final hole on Thursday with the same wedge from a difficult lie. De Jonge thought the ball was plugged, but he was not allowed [...]

Rule 14-1b in Action – Feb 17, 2016 | Far Hills, N.J.

2017-12-07T10:05:47-08:00

Since Rule 14-1b went into effect on Jan. 1 prohibiting anchored strokes on the golf course, there have only been a few questions raised at the professional level as to whether there was a breach of this Rule. Two recent situations have provided excellent, real-world illustrations of this Rule. Rule 14-1b prohibits two actions during a stroke: 1) directly anchoring the club or a gripping hand against the body and 2) indirectly anchoring the [...]

Rickie Fowler – High-Top Shoes and Pants at Kapalua

2017-12-07T10:05:49-08:00

The social-media buzz created by Rickie Fowler’s new high-top shoes and fresh pants at Kapalua should surprise few. Rickie’s unique style often sparks conversation. Inspired in part by friends Keegan Bradley and Michelle Wie wearing high-top golf shoes last year, and his penchant to move the fashion needle, Fowler asked Puma for a similar look in 2016. The result is what you saw at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. “I wanted my own take on [this look],” Fowler told Golf Digest. “It’s something fun, something to bring my personality into it.” Fowler worked with Puma’s head of golf shoes, Grant [...]

Chamblee: Tiger, not Jack, is greatest of all time.

2015-12-18T14:07:35-08:00

Who is the best golfer of all time? In an upcoming “Golf Central” special celebrating Tiger Woods’ 40th birthday, Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee said that he would pick Woods over Jack Nicklaus. “Longevity sanctifies an idea, a career, a relationship, a government,” Chamblee said. “In that regard, Jack Nicklaus’ career was so long – won major championships over 24 years, spanned three generations – but Tiger Woods dominated in a way that had never been done before, and will never be done again. So I think, at least in my estimation, that you’d have to give the edge to [...]
